Students Return Back to School
How do students feel about being in person for school?
April 27, 2021
On April 15th, 2021 students received the opportunity to come back on campus for the remainder of the school year. With the many COVID challenges of this year, coming back to school felt like a breath of fresh air.
Although, not all San Dimas students decided to return, many agreed it was safer to finish the remainder of the school year online. But with one step at a time, it felt like a little more normalcy was on the horizon. Since returning, San Dimas High School has taken the appropriate precautions in order for students to return safely to school. Some of those precautions include: wearing a mask at all times, wiping off desks after each class, adding plexiglass barriers to the desks, staying 3 feet apart inside of classrooms, and washing hands.
Some students felt that coming back was the best option for them because of the lack of engagement they felt taking online classes. Senior Maria Serrano stated, “what made me go back to school was the classes I was having trouble with.” For some students, they may have excelled with online school but for others, it was a struggle.
Another Senior JJ Batteast stated, “Staying focused was a problem for me because there were many distractions at home, now that I’m in the classroom again my grades have risen and my focus is a lot better.” Coming back to school has a positive impact on students’ grades because of being more engaged in person.

As exciting as the news of being in person is, it can also be really exciting for teachers. Batteast stated, “I didn’t believe the news about returning back to school but then I heard a teacher say it and I got excited to come back”. Being in school brings a lot of excitement because students are finally able to sit behind a desk and not a computer.
Being back at school can feel as if things have a chance of slowly going back to normal. With one step at a time school has the potential to fully open up.
