A New Safe Place

The Gay-Straight Alliance Club is here for everyone.

September 27, 2018

A relatively new club on campus named The Gay-Straight Alliance is welcoming anyone that wants to join. It’s a place to make friends and give/receive support for life’s challenges without judgment. The members of the club hope to facilitate an environment that is a safe place for all.

The club was founded by Marina Wilson her freshman year of 2014. “I created the club so that people have a safe place to go to and know that people are there for them.” States Wilson.

Marina Wilson is now in 12th grade and a proud leader of this emerging club. Hayden Daniel and Abbey Debelkia join her as the Vice President and Secretary.

The Gay-Straight Alliance meets every-other Tuesday in Mrs. Hooper’s room R-5. They discuss topics that are going on in the LGBTQ+ community, and also hope to work towards joining an organization that can help them participate in events that push for change.

Marina wants to spread awareness of their movement and see how she can help others through tough times. She wants to make sure that everyone is safe from being bullied or mistreated. The end goal is to grow awareness and create a safe place for all to be accepted into a great learning environment.
