Prom 2021: A Night to Remember

SDHS came together to give the class of 2021 and 2022 a prom to remember

June 2, 2021

On Saturday, May 22, 2021 seniors and juniors were gathered for a special night. Although there were many COVID restrictions in place, students were thrilled to have a bit of normalcy and celebrate with their friends.

Prom was hosted at Hangar 21 in Fullerton where students were able to enjoy themselves at the first, and last dance of the year. Prom was set up with carnival rides, good music, and of course, a large open dance floor. With much of the year forcing students to see classmates through screens, Prom was a great way to give everyone a chance to enjoy themselves with their fellow classmates.

Senior Vallery Ayala stated she was hesitant at first about attending the event, “My first thought when hearing about prom was that it wasn’t going to be enjoyable because of COVID restrictions and having to wear a mask, social distance, etc,”. Her initial thought of prom changed when she decided to go the dance, “At first it was kind of boring but as the night continued I had a lot of fun when more people joined the dance floor.”

Senior JJ Batteast stated, “Prom was pretty normal, the only difference was the mask.” Batteast also stated, “the best part of prom was being able to be with my classmates and have a good time especially being that it is my last dance.”

Although for many of us Prom was unexpected it brought a lot of joy to many students. Prom was a chance for many of our students to gather one more time before the school year ends and have a good time. Rather than seeing each other through Zoom screens, for many students, Prom was a fun experience and many had the opportunity to enjoy themselves.
