October 28, 2021
San Dimas High School Choir Department opened up this holiday season at the Bonita Center for the Arts with their fall debut which was filled with harvest themed cheers, and songs bringing an ambient light into this upcoming holiday season.
The Choir Director Mr.Pugh had many emotions to feel that night ,and here´s what he had to say when asked ¨How does it feel to finally be able to have a concert during this pandemic?.¨ He responded with ¨ It feels great ,we had a lot of hard work and dedication put into this concert, im just glad the zoom meetings are over FINALLY.¨ Choir president Jami Rosales was asked ¨With you being choir president how has it affected you and the choir as a whole? She responded with ¨We keep growing and getting better by the day, if the pandemic couldn’t hold our voices back then nothing really can.¨
San Dimas High School Choir department´s Chamber and Chorale have been practicing since August to prepare and perform for their fall debut. Chamber Choir (Honor Choir) prepared an italian piece called ¨Dies Irae¨ by Ryan Main which filled the BCA with a beautiful harmonic, but powerful energy. It was then followed up with ¨The Road Home¨ by Arr.Stephen Paulus, the piece made the room feel whole and comforted more like being held by a song. The Chamber choir closed their final act with ¨The Storm is Passing Over¨ by Charles Albert Tindly arr.Barbra W. Baker takes you back to church with the vibrato that blended well between the tenors and basses.
Chorale opended their performance with ¨Jubilte¨ composed by Sandra Howard, the choir brought life to their song and by performing it with intensity the audience could feel empowered by. Their next piece was ¨When Jesus Wept¨ by Willam Billings, the pain and hurt that they portrayed in their voices invoked feelings of empathy and clarity within the audience. They closed their performance with ¨The Wellerman¨ by New Zealand Folk Song arr. Roger Emerson, this song filled the audience with tremor and instilled a unique sense of fear because of the way the tenors and bases blended together.
