On October 3rd, 2024 an event called Youth Spirit Night was held. The event consisted of girls ages 4-14 to participate with the San Dimas cheerleaders at the football game for first and second quarter with a thrilling team halftime performance. Senior Captain Ireland Ries, Freshman Sabrina Phan, from the San Dimas Cheer team were interviewed at this event. Friends and family had a great time watching their future saints make memories with the San Dimas cheerleaders on that unforgettable night.
Youth Night participants went to 2 cheer practices before the football game to get ready for the big night to make a night full of fun and thrilling memories. Future saints learned incredible stunts,cheers, dances and more. Teaching lots of young girls in a gym for 2 hours was hard work for the cheerleaders but they stayed patient and calm to insure everyone was on task to listen and follow instructions throughout the night. Senior Captain Ireland Ries said “You need to be really patient, excited and be ready to work!” Each participant learned all about how to be a San Dimas cheerleader to get ready and perform in front of friends and family. The cheerleaders were great role models for the small girls and made sure everyone was having a fun safe time. The girls worked hard at the 2 hour practices they had for 2 days and also had a great time having fun games and making lots of new friends.
On October 3rd, it was game day. The day the girls prepared for. The girls met before the game for a lunch with the team. They also got their youth night shirts and bows. At the start of the game a cheerleader was responsible for taking care of a small group of girls for the first and second quarter. All of the participants were eager to cheer and support their San Dimas football players to take the win against West Covina. As the game went on they performed cheers and loud chants. As family and friends gathered in the stands to watch their children be put up in incredible stunts and cheer the football players on it was an amazing two quarters. Everyone worked hard to show their enthusiasm, spirit and exciting energy to this big night.
As Halftime began the girls rushed to get ready for their performance while everyone pulled out their cameras and turned their focus to the field to watch the girls perform their special routine. The girls were announced onto to the field and the crowd echoed with support. They ran to their starting positions to the center of the field quickly before their music was on. Each girl stood with pride ready to bring special energy and show off all their hard work. As the music started the girls performed showing off astonishing flips, incredible jumps, and synchronized dancing. Stunt groups hit perfect and clean stunts with their top girls smiling with glee. As the end of their performance came up girls danced with huge smiles and clean motions showing off their skills as a cheerleader. The crowd was loud and supportive when the performance ended. A perfect way to end this unforgettable night.
Overall Youth Spirit Night 2024 was a successful event. Freshman Sabrina Phan said “It was a very fun first time experience.” With around 40 girls who participated at this event each cheerleader did a great job giving each girl a night filled with amazing memories and parents to have the opportunity to watch their girls have passion for cheer. The girls had a ton of fun helping these little girls create fun and unforgettable memories that would last them a lifetime.
