San Dimas High School’s girls varsity volleyball team concluded their season with an unforgettable Senior Night. They played against Los Altos High at home on Oct. 15, securing a 3-0 set win. They are now eligible to go to CIF and continue their fantastic teamwork with each other in state-level championships.
This win marked San Dimas’ 23-8 record in the season, ranking #9 in CIF-SS: Division 4. The Saints have consecutively won all games against Los Altos, so although nerves were in the air, the idea of winning wasn’t so far away.
The Saints started strong with the first set score of 25-10, through solid teamwork, strong serves, and quick rallies. Number 14, senior Savannah Clelland, contributes with cunning kills and securing aces all around. While incredible serves are displayed by number 15, senior Jadyen Hanson, as none of the opposing players can lift the ball. Seniors Leanna Robledo and Jacqui Martinez provide by going for kills and digs. In succession, we gained numerous points with excellent serves from Clelland, winning set one. The crowd’s energy is off the charts with cheers and screams as we move on to Set Two.
Our main source of points comes from freshman Juliana Picazo, senior Clelland, and junior Sophie Attalla dominating the opposing team. Picazo leads with a series of sharp attacks that keep Los Altos on defense. Clelland and Atalla score two more points, turning every rally into the Saints’ advantage. Despite a few missed plays, San Dimas maintains control and finishes the set powerfully, winning 25-12.
The final set was easy for the Lady Saints. Clelland, Martinez, and senior Natalie Starkey bring us to an impressive lead with early serves and spikes. The Saints have full control of the game; they effortlessly gain advantage by supplying blocks, saves, and fast serves, thanks to Martinez, junior Neriah Bobadilla, and sophomore Taylor Smith. Despite a few points from Los Altos, the Saints keep momentum. We finished off the set with a few strong serves from Clelland, securing a 25-4 victory.
“They know the game, they learn the game, and they play hard, and that’s what makes them really successful,” Coach Hanson said. The team’s constant work, battling with hard plays and consistent resilience, makes them the best players they can be. “As the seniors move on, I want them to remember the life lessons they learned here of teamwork, camaraderie, and the spirit of working as hard as you can for what you want,” Hanson leaves us off on a bittersweet note, never forgetting the ways he and his team have grown.
