It’s been a one-of-a-kind season for the 2026 San Dimas Varsity Baseball team. Typically, it’s not much of a struggle for the Saints to come out on top in not only the preseason but also in the league. This season has looked different because the losing streaks have been longer than expected. The Saints have had to fight harder than ever before this season.
The boys have been feeling this way about the changes, too. Senior Adam Rosalas has mentioned how “this season has been the most different out of all the past 3 I’ve played with the program.” Over the years, the Saints have lost some of their best power hitters, which might be a reason their winning consistency has declined. This has been one of the biggest issues for the team, leading the Saints to a 4-5 streak in the league so far.
The rivalry game against the Bonita Bearcats is always a tradition that both teams look forward to. It’s filled with intensity but also unforgettable memories. The Saints were able to hang onto their 3-0 lead for 6 innings, but ended up giving 1 run to the Bearcats at the end of the 7th. This put the Saints under pressure, since the Bearcats had a chance to tie the game at the very last second. With the Bearcats runners on base, Sophomore Dean Brosterhous was able to secure the win for the Saints. This 2-1 win over the Saints’ biggest rivals definitely gave the Saints the confidence boost they needed at the beginning of their season.
However, after this big win, the Saints’ consistency fell short. Right after the Bonita game, the Saints played against the Ayala Bulldogs and got killed 7-1. A 5-game losing streak is definitely unheard of for the Saints. What’s even worse is that this losing streak occurred when the Saints were about to start the season. If they wanted to qualify for CIF, something had to change, and it’s only up to them to make it happen. This turned their 5-game losing streak into a 5-game winning streak. The Saints are currently 10-11 this season, which isn’t amazing, but it’s not terrible either.
Like all things, there comes a time when everything comes to an end. Sadly, high school baseball doesn’t last forever for these boys. Senior Cole Lipp talks about what his true feelings are when being on the diamond. “I’m sad that it’s going to be my last time playing, but I’m happy to go on to bigger and better things.”
The most important thing in baseball is to have fun, and these boys are making the most out of it. From beating their rivals in Bonita to coming off a 5-day winning streak, they cannot be more excited about CIF approaching. This season hasn’t been perfect, but nothing is perfect. The team continues to show up for one another, and so in all the games they have left.
