For the athletes in the National Football League, the new year marks the start of the battle for the Lombardi Trophy and the most important games of the season. Top teams fight to stay alive in the NFL Playoffs, and one loss can end all their hopes of becoming Super Bowl Champions.
This year, the playoffs feature many teams that are unfamiliar with the postseason, including the Chicago Bears (NFC), who last appeared in the playoffs in 2020, and the Carolina Panthers (NFC), who have been eliminated every year since 2017. On the other hand, teams that are no strangers to the Playoffs include the Denver Broncos (AFC), who made it one year ago, and the Buffalo Bills (AFC), who lost the game to make it to the Super Bowl or the AFC Championship, look to use their past playoff experience to make it all the way.

Securing the One Seed in the NFC are the Seattle Seahawks, who, despite not making the playoffs in 3 years, look to use their lethal, lockdown defense to shut down some of the explosive offenses they will have to face.
However, they have an explosive offense of their own, headlined by their star veteran quarterback, Sam Darnold, and All-Pro Wide Receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Senior Nick Mangune stated, “Jaxon Smith is the best in the league; his elite routes and physicality really put him above the rest and complete this powerhouse team.” (Mangune, 12)

On the opposite side of the bracket, and at the top of the AFC, are the Denver Broncos. This team, which was viewed as an underdog going into the season, has really stunned many. The combination of their amazing defense, led by current sack leader Nik Bonitto, and their All-Pro Cornerback, Patrick Surtain II. The commander of their offense, Quarterback Bo Nix, uses his agile and shifty movements to pick apart defenses and leave their offense scheme untraceable. All of these players in Denver have great chemistry and are led by a knowledgeable and bold Head Coach, Sean Payton, establishing themselves as one of the greatest contenders for the Lombardi Trophy.
Teams like the New England Patriots in the AFC also have a good shot at making the bowl game. Led by a young quarterback, Drake Maye, he maintains composure and puts up great numbers in close games, paired with his veteran defense, with players like Matthew Judon, making them the close number 2 seeds in the AFC.
The NFC West, arguably the toughest division in the entire league, sent 3 out of the 4 teams to the playoffs, which does not happen often. The 3 include the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Rams. Seattle, holding the number one seed, has a first-round bye and may have to play one of their division rivals, who all have one regular-season win over each other, ensuring fireworks if two of these teams match up in the divisional round.

As the Playoffs get underway, the stakes could not be higher for every team. Old Veterans look to ensure their legacies, while the upcoming stars try to make a name for themselves. From experienced contenders like the Bills, to upcoming teams like the Panthers, this years Postseason is sure to be wild. At the end of the day, only one team will be able to lift the Lombardi Trophy, but every game along the way will define what makes the NFL Playoffs the most exciting time of this football season.
