The newly implicated train station in San Dimas has brought both positives and negatives to the community as a whole, as it has brought an influx of the homeless population and also has helped the community commute to their jobs.
Since the train station opened, it has been a focal point not only for residents but also for city officials, business owners, and others.
The train station can help many students and support transportation for them in order to get to school. Junior Nathan Acevedo benefits from this drastically as he says “Thanks to the train station I’m able to get to school on time everyday from Riverside”.
Commuters find this extremely important for students as it saves a lot of time making the long drive from their homes to school. This is important as it improves congestion and also saves gas and money.
On the downside, the train station has also increased the homeless population in our city. Homeless people are brought to San Dimas from cities all around and this has been affecting students and residents all around.
One interesting incident that a student witnessed was “homeless people coming from the train station and causing a mess around the city and local businesses in the area” said Junior Danny Diaz.
This has also caused concern to residents as these individuals are seeking shelter by people’s homes, which causes people to worry about the sanitation and safety around the city. This is especially during the late night hours of the day.
Another positive that the train station brings is that it supports local businesses and shops, as it brings more traffic to their stores. Local businesses have reported greater volume and an increase in sales. This results in an economic influx in the area, which includes growth and development.
Overall, the train station has both pros and cons. The pros are the growth of the economy and the support of people in need of everyday transportation. This can be a controversial topic if the pros possibly outweigh the cons, which is the decline in safety and cleanliness of our city.
