As many seniors experience “senioritis” as we approach the final months of the school year, an exciting yearly event encourages students to continue having fun. At San Dimas High School, the start of March signals the beginning of the annual Senior Assassin water gun game. Participating seniors must eliminate their assigned targets until only one team remains, winning a large cash prize.
Teams of 1-4 are selected based on personal preference and are later assigned targets. With the location of each of these targets on the Splashin app, teams are allowed to infiltrate buildings, parking lots, or most public spaces you can think of. One way to protect yourself from being eliminated is to wear floaties or have goggles equipped. With one of these two items on you, your targets are not allowed to get you out.
At San Dimas High School, 96 participants started. As we have progressed through the weeks and are nearly a month into the competition, half of the participants have been eliminated. Amid controversy over a few rules and a couple of administrative changes, two teams have consistently met their targets.
Holding the crown currently, with 8 eliminations, is the “Scissor Sisters.” A team with Gage Nusbaum, Andrew Des Martes, Logan Hopper, and Ryan Fox is sure to be caught with their protection every place they go. Senior Gage Nusbaum states, “I never go anywhere without them (his floaties). They are like a second nature for me to put on before heading out the door,” (Nusbaum 12). With 6 totals by himself, Nusbaum is a threat to be reckoned with and continues on the hunt throughout the entirety of this game.
Another top dawg in the Senior Assassin game at San Dimas is the “Wet Wankers” led by senior Derek Galeazzi. He states, “I find tactics on getting people out, and although it may be borderline creeper status, I’m just here to win” (Galeazzi, 12). With 4 eliminations, he comfortably sits at 2nd for most eliminations and carries his team with 400 total points (100 points per elim).
This game is filled with stealth, alliances, and competitiveness. With all targets getting refreshed frequently, it is important to stay aware of your surroundings and not to forget those floaties. May the best team come out on top!
