It’s game time for the San Dimas High School Boys Golf team, and they are ready to start back on the green, determined to make a hole in one and win the league.
These Saints are off to a great start this season and are already showing improvement from the dedication they put into their preseason. The team currently has a 2-0 record in the league, playing in over 90-degree heat for the past two weeks. Mixed results came early this week, but the Saints secured the win against the Colony Titans. Captain Ryan Fox and Avery Navarro led the team, with the Saint lineup contributing.
However, the Saints’ preseason wasn’t as good as they had hoped. Before the small changes aimed at securing more wins, the Golf team had just suffered a hard loss to the Saints’ rivals, the Bonita Bearcats. “Our loss to Bonita definitely stung a little, since we only play them once and the stakes were higher,” junior Andrew Barrett states. “We have to use this loss as motivation when going into the league, and Bonita is one of the top teams in our area. If we were able to hang in with them, we could take on anyone in our league.”
In the match against Colony, Ryan Fox and Andrew Barrett were able to shoot the lowest scores of the season. These strong individual performances rallied the team, leading to the win. “Everyone was able to do their part on the course, and we finally showed what we are capable of doing. We need to continue this winning streak we’re on and stay focused,” senior captain Ryan Fox says. The boys also secured a win against Rowland High, which has led the team to play more loosely and confidently. They were able to quickly recover from the minor mistakes that had cost them the wins previously and used them as fuel to know what it feels like to lose.
This team is slowly gaining recognition as its league season starts, showing potential to win the Hacienda League. Winning this league title can secure this team a spot in CIF, where they would face some of the top competitors in Southern California. If anyone could do it, it would be the San Dimas Boys Golf te
