The results are in, and San Dimas’ very own honors Chamber Choir is back with new singers! Chamber Choir is the most advanced and awarded choir in San Dimas High School, holding just above 20 of the school’s most promising singers. Auditions for Chamber were held throughout late March, right before the choir’s rejuvenating trip to Hawaii. On April 7th, 2026, the callbacks and lineup for Chamber’s 2026-27 school year were posted. Next school year will be a very important choral season for the new singers as they advance in their musical career. In total, there are eight sopranos, eight altos, six tenors, and eight basses, creating a team of 30 students in total.
Being in Chamber Choir, it is the singers’ responsibilities to learn at least four complex choral pieces before their quarterly concerts. In between these concerts, Chamber Choir participates in fun festivals alongside other schools. After earning a score of “Superior” at this year’s spring choral festival, the future is looking bright for next year’s choir. Not only does Chamber Choir perform on a stage, they also perform in classrooms for Christmas caroling and they even sing at Back to School Night, Future Saints Night, and Graduation.
For current Bel Canto singer Layla Lopez, getting into Chamber has been a dream come true. “This is extremely exciting for me and my friends,” says sophomore Lopez. “It’s just amazing to me.” Lopez expresses how during her time in Chamber she wants to perform more foreign songs.
Sophomore Capri Gonzales, another current Bel Canto singer, expresses her love for the people currently in Chamber Choir. “I know lots of friends that are in Chamber…it makes me feel really confident in my voice and myself.” She is also excited to perform plenty of foreign songs and to expand her range as a soprano.
The audition process for Chamber Choir is lengthy and rigorous, including a first and second round. The first round focuses on sight reading and the chromatic scale, giving students a piece of music to read without hearing it beforehand. Plenty of people passed this first round. Passing the first round leads one to the second round, where students are determined their spot in the choir by singing the San Dimas High School Alma Mater. Those who succeed get into Chamber. Unfortunately, many people who have gone to the second round did not pass, and they will be participating in Bel Canto next year, another Honor Choir at SDHS.
Layla Lopez expresses her feelings on the audition. “I was mostly calm during the time, but through certain points, I was pretty nervous.” She goes on to say that she felt better towards the end, and that she’s more than excited to be in Chamber her junior year.
Right now, the singers are performing for their long-awaited Pops concert featuring both singing and dance performances. As this is their second-to-last performance of the year, they cannot wait to convey their talents on stage once more.
