Sophomore Gabriella Bailey has been playing baritone saxophone for two years in the San Dimas Royal Corps Marching band, and throughout these years, her love for the art of music has grown significantly,, becoming a lifestyle for her.
- How long have you been playing the Bari Saxophone?
I have been playing baritone sax for 4 years now, but I have been in the band for 7 years, playing alto as well.
- What is your favorite song to play?
I don’t think I have a favorite song to play, but it would definitely be
something fast-paced, catchy, or with an important baseline part , such as when we played ” Toxic ” and ” Uptown Funk ” for SD Rocks last year
- Was there a moment you had that confirmed your love for music?
Music has been present for my entire life, so its hard to choose just one moment, but some influences have were listening to the Beatles on family vacations and also going to my first Tyler the creator concert
- Are there any other instruments you play?
I also play alto sax
- Who’s your favorite music artist?
Either Tyler the creator or Radiohead
- What lessons has music taught you throughout the years?

Some lessons I have learnt are to blame yourself for a mistake before blaming the instrument, but I have also learned the importance of being connected as a band. Not only staying together in the music but also understanding and appreciating the people you’re playing with
- Is music something you would want to pursue in the future?
I wouldn’t pursue music as a career, but I definitely want to keep it in my life if that means joining a band in college or just practicing on my own
- What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Don’t get cocky or overconfident. It can take a long time to master your instrument and be able to play music well. If you think you are the best right now there is definitely more to learn. I am 100% still learning things I can do to play better. Stay humble and practice
