Winter is coming… For the SDHS Colorguard.

Winter+is+coming...+For+the+SDHS+Colorguard.

Starting in January the SDHS Colorguard will start their competitive winter season with their first competition, January 29th at Orange county eval. For freshmen’s, it will be something new and exciting being able to compete with the judges right there in front of you and being able to see the audience’s reaction when someone catches a strong toss, but for the seniors, on the other hand, it will be a season to remember.

In the past years, Colorguard has done shows like “dear future husband”, “carousel” and “good vibrations” which were supposed to be their 2020 show, but didn’t finish because covid didn’t go as planned. This year’s show is based on the story of medusa.

For the next month or so the guard will be practicing Tuesdays and Thursdays to prepare for the upcoming season. The Colorguard does more than just spin equipment they dance and this year’s show is going to be heavily carried by movement. “My favorite thing is to dance the dances that lionel and Terresa make are always so much fun. and the one thing I’m looking forward to is that ending flag block for our show I know it’s gonna be so much fun to perform with my team.”-Senior, Hannah lamas.

Last year the Colorguard show was supposed to be a beach-themed show with the song “Good Vibrations” by the beach boys, But because of covid, the guard was unable to do it. Although its season was cut short it was by far one of the best. “ I really liked the show we had and was excited to see how far we would go, but I’m even more excited for the one we have now”- Freshman, Krestina Ashenafi.

This year’s show is a medusa-themed show with music by Ingrid Michaelson. This show will not only revolve around equipment such as saber and rifle but also a lot of movement and dance. This show is very mature for the guard, especially because in the past years the Colorguard has only ever done fun and cute shows this will definitely be a change for them.
