San Dimas High School’s Choral department, along with Lone Hill Middle School, came together for the annual Spring Choir Concert. This event was held at the Bonita Center for the Arts on March 11th at 7 p.m., allowing the two middle school choirs and the three main choirs from San Dimas to perform. In addition to those choirs, there are two additional student-run choirs from the high school, such as the Overtones and Jazz Choir.
These many choirs allowed for many opportunities for the singers to express themselves on stage. Each choir did a minimum of 3 songs. With that, every hour had a different meaning, they wanted to push across, such as the Chamber choir. Junior Max Romero shares “I really love the contrast and mix of all parts coming together to create this very musical and symphonic environment for the choir.”
Another choir that shared a message was Bel Canto whose songs were based on love. Sophomore Layla Byrd shared her love for I Celebrate Life “I recently discovered Amy Gordon’s song I Celebrate Life and it’s an absolute gem. The uplifting melody and powerful vocals make it an instant mood booster. It’s the perfect anthem for anyone looking to add a little joy to their day.”
The last major school-affiliated choir for SDHS is Chorale, with its gorgeous set. Freshman Jet Tom shared ” Not gonna lie… this song is pretty sweet. It’s cute and lets me sing in my vocal range… and a very simple song only 3 words so easy to remember, and sounds like a dolphin in the ocean.”
All of these performers shared their love for the songs and when the audience members could tell. Senior Melanie Larrimore when asked stated, “You could really tell that the performers liked the songs. They seemed really happy and like they really enjoyed the songs.”
As this song was the last formal performance of the year, this performance was more significant. For some performers, this is the last time that they will be wearing their formal attire. The way that they performed on stage, you can tell that they were giving it their all. This concert has made a memorable last chorale concert for many.
