San Dimas High School has a new addition to their well established group of teachers this school year. The new tenth and eleventh grade World History and U.S. History teacher, Mrs. Herr, embodies all the qualities that makes the San Dimas faculty beyond exceptional. She is a dedicated educator who is passionate about what she teaches and is fully invested in being the learning vessel that is necessary to see her students succeed in every way possible.
There’s so much more to Mrs. Herr than people might expect. Besides taking on one of the most challenging jobs, which is being a teacher, she previously had the position of international licensing manager in Japan and Italy. Herr collaborated with an Italian fashion designer for her job, leading meetings and translating to collaborate on designs.
She grew up in Big Bear and after graduating from Big Bear High, she attended Cal State Fullerton. After two years, Herr transferred to Harvard University, which has an acceptance rate of only 3.5 percent. During her college experience, she became fluent in Japanese, French, and Spanish by taking classes and receiving job experience working with peers who spoke those languages. On top of that, she played volleyball in high school and continued to play throughout college.
This is Herr’s tenth year being a teacher. Throughout her many years of teaching, she has taught from sixth grade all the way up to twelfth grade students for the subjects: history, psychology, and biology. Therefore, this makes her a versatile and well rounded teacher having taught in a variety of different subjects. She taught at Ramona Middle School, Edgewood High School, and West Covina High School before becoming part of the San Dimas High School teaching staff.
While being a teacher, she has made it her priority to encourage her students to appreciate and understand how great of a subject history can be.
Herr’s family includes her husband and two year old daughter. She and her husband have been together ever since high school at the age of fifteen. They were the typical high school sweethearts who lived to marry each other just like a classic fairy tale scenario.
Outside of aiding in the development of young minds at school, she has a multitude of hobbies that take up a majority of her time. Herr enjoys spending her down time reading books, riding horses, hiking, and crocheting. It’s a mix of outdoor adventures and cozy inside activities, which makes the perfect combination.
