Dear Saints,
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Maile Carranza. I have been in the Journalism class for two years. Last year, I was one of the Social Media Managers for the class. Now I am the Editor-In-Chief for the (2025-2026) school year. Being chosen for this position was such an honor. I am so thankful to Mrs. Lehrmann for trusting me enough to let me be the Editor-In-Chief this year. I have enjoyed this position greatly because writing is one of my passions and being able to lead this class through the Saint Scroll is truly rewarding. I believe that our journalism class is a vital part of San Dimas High School through our publications; we are able to showcase all of the amazing aspects of our school. Not to mention the fact that all students feel seen and recognized for their hard work through our articles.
I love the fact that our Journalism class is a place where students are not limited by structural writing. Where we are able to write about topics that truly interest us, whether that is in school or the community around us. The best work always results from passion and that’s what allows our publication site to produce such great quality work.
I can’t believe that the school year is almost over, I feel like it has gone by so fast. I am saddened by the fact that the seniors are soon leaving and us juniors will be seniors next year. It’s a crazy realization to process. Moreover, there are a couple things that I wish I would have known as an underclassmen, that I would love to share. Firstly, it’s so important to keep up with your grades, because your G.P.A accumulates throughout all four years of high school. Secondly, don’t be hindered by the thought of taking an A.P. class; taking at least a couple is a great way to challenge yourself academically.
Thirdly, be involved. I came to San Dimas High School as a freshman, however I felt as though everyone already knew each other due to the fact that many students came here from Lone Hill. Being involved in the Volleyball and Science Olympiad team specifically, is what allowed me to get to know more people; I even met some of my best friends by simply branching out. Additionally, clubs are such a great way to be involved as well. Being a part of various clubs will only strengthen your skill set and allow you to connect with others based on similar interests.
I am not going to lie and say high school is easy because it’s not. There will always be stress with classes, drama with friends, feeling like you aren’t measuring up in sports or academically, but just remember this is such a small fraction of your entire life. It’s important to prioritize having fun in the moment and not overthinking everything, which is something that I wish I had known before. Don’t worry over stressing about little things that seem big now, because soon they will be microscopic in the grand scheme of life.

This is one of my favorite quotes because it shows just how impactful an individual can be in others lives. To lead a life that’s full of joy and to prioritize making others feel loved. As one of the most common sayings state, “treat others the way that you want to be treated.” Being a light in a world that’s so full of darkness is something that I think will always be long lasting in importance.
