The high school San Dimas Royal Corps recently competed at the annual Bonita Band Competition on October fourth; despite being on the Bearcats home field and going up against six different bands, they placed first overall in the 6A division.
The Royal Corp have now been putting together their show since June, committing themselves to four hour rehearsals in the beaming sun. Through learning basic marching skills to learning complex sixteen note runs, their commitment and resilience shines through. Their show titled The Last Laugh indulges into the life of the Joker — the rise and fall of the Joker and expresses the various emotional scenes of the franchise through music. They incorporate music from the movie throughout the show with expressive choreography from the band

and colorguard. With a great past season, expectations were high this season to live up to previous years.
Energy was high walking into the stadium; the Saints were ready to put it all onto the field. The drum majors fiercely led the band through their performance; the band scored an overall of 55.8 and won first place in the division. The Royal Corp took home various overall awards such as colorguard placing second overall with a score of 65.00. Additionally, the drumlyne placed second overall out of the six other bands at the competition.
The Saints did phenomenal given that it was the first competition of the season. They showcased their new uniforms, and the band gave it their all while performing. From Stephen Tran’s interpretive spotlight of the Joker to all the soloists and every individual band member their commitment is shown through their performance.
The Bonita band competition was just the spark of their bright beginning, with their commitment shining through their performance as every member illuminates the notes on the field. It is a thrill to witness 160 band members pull together to create a fascinating show.
