This year, seniors at San Dimas High School are stepping outside their comfort zones and trying new activities, showing that it’s never too late to take a risk. Three students are showing bravery by joining new sports for their last year of high school. One is taking on dance, another is making experience in wrestling, and a third is thriving in girls basketball. Each of them have very different experiences that show growth and determination that should be shared.

Jon Razon joining dance opened up a whole new world for him. His curiosity quickly turned into something he excelled at, and his skills at hip hop kept him motivated while having fun. He found dance was a great way to show his confidence and he met friends that allowed him to grow. Jon discovered new opportunities, friendships, and experiences that helped him experience his last year to the fullest. “I met new people, made great memories, and had fun,” Jon said. He explains that taking this chance made his senior year positive and he is forever grateful for the experience.

Chloe Perez is adapting to new territory as she joins the girls basketball team. The new environment has been challenging, but she loves spending time with her friends and especially enjoys playing alongside her sister. Even though she is finding her love for the game, she said,”playing with my team makes everything more fun.” Chloe explains the team feels like the perfect way to spend her senior year, balancing practices while keeping busy with two sports this season. Being part of the team has helped her stay motivated and connected during her final year at San Dimas.

Senior Jamie Loeza decided to give wrestling another try this year after taking years off and trying again for the first time at San Dimas. Although she had wrestled before, her first year wrestling at San Dimas wasn’t what she expected. Jamie admitted that she didn’t have the best experience as she felt the sport was more like a chore rather than something she enjoyed. “I still talk to the girls, it just wasn’t my cup of tea anymore,” she said. While wrestling didn’t turn into a passion for her, Jamie says the experience was still worth it for the friendships she made and the opportunity to put herself out there again. Trying wrestling her senior year taught her the importance of taking chances, even if things don’t turn out exactly as planned.
