Bittersweet endings come with future goals; find out what the seniors have in store on the next step to their career!
The Next Step: Senior’s Resolutions For Their Last Semester of High School

Despite high school coming to a close for this year’s seniors, many are planning on how to spend a final semester thriving with productivity and lasting memories. To many seniors, leaving SDHS is bittersweet, yet they view it as an opportunity for change and new opportunities. Either way, all seniors are looking forward to walking the stage on June 2nd. Before it’s too late, dive into three seniors’ resolutions for the new semester and new year.

Senior Maya Ford

Senior Maya Ford is working to connect with San Dimas one last time. Luckily, SDHS offers several fun-filled programs for seniors such as Prom and Grad Night. Looking back on her high school career, Ford’s Biomed class experience was the most memorable. Now, she focuses on participating in more senior events. “It’s, like, the last time I’ll be at high school,” says senior Ford. She looks forward to participating in Senior Grad Night, planning to “pay attention to Minga and the emails [for the events], ‘cause I don’t read them at all.” Another goal she has in mind is getting good grades, as “It’s a personal goal”. Despite the nostalgia that leaving high school brings, Ford plans to take every new opportunity to her advantage.

Clubs and extracurriculars play major roles in students’ lives, and senior Dylan Duarte is no exception. At SDHS, his favorite memory is going off-campus with his friends and buying food. His major goals for this last semester include strengthening the GOST Squad tutoring club, communicating with other clubs, and focusing on himself. “Club wise, [I plan to] create a more healthy and safe learning environment for tutoring,” says senior Duarte. It is clear that he wants to make a difference on this campus through helping all students. Duarte is also looking forward to his future in college. “I want good grades, good colleges to finally accept me,” says senior Duarte. “I’ve been waiting forever.”

Senior Joriel Dela Pena

Balancing AP classes and Choir, Senior Joriel Dela Pena has her priorities set for this semester. Joining the district her freshman year, her favorite memory since then is meeting new people and building friendships. Her major goals for this final semester are passing her AP exams and earning straight A’s. “I’ll start studying for my exams, I’ll try harder in my classes,” says senior Dela Pena. Also singing for SDHS’ Bel Canto and Chamber Choirs, she strives to practice more and get all the notes and rhythms right. By then, she will be performing at her own graduation, a bittersweet goodbye to SDHS.

As much as all the seniors will be missed, they still have a few months left to go. Instead of letting the infamous “senioritis” take over, they are planning deliberately for their future careers and aspirations with bittersweet feelings. They deserve a round of applause for their unforgettable contributions to San Dimas.
