Starting the summer fun early, the San Dimas High School Choir kicked off their 2026 Hawaii Tour, spending spring break from March 27 to April 2 in Waikiki and across O’ahu, where they enjoyed cultural experiences, the Aloha State Music Festival, and of course, the beautiful shores of Hawaii.
Choir President Abigail Lawrence remarks that she “absolutely loved this year’s tour”, especially since she “went to New York on tour as a freshman.” She explains,”the upperclassmen were able to give me what I hoped to give the freshman now as a junior; a sense of belonging and a good example of the kind of student and singer they want to be.”
The trip began with an early morning flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu on March 27. Upon arrival, students were greeted with traditional leis before meeting their tour guide and heading to the Hyatt Place Waikiki Hotel. After settling in and freshening up, the group shared an inclusive dinner and spent the evening exploring Waikiki Beach and the shops along Kalakaua Avenue.
Saturday was centered around the Aloha State Music Festival. After breakfast, students prepared throughout the day for their performance. In the evening, they gathered for a concert call time before taking the stage for both individual and mass choir performances, showcasing their talent for an audience of family, friends, and fellow performers.
On Sunday, students explored the historical significance of Pearl Harbor. They toured the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial, the U.S.S. Missouri, gaining a deeper understanding of the events that shaped the nation. That evening, they attended the Ka Moana Luau at Aloha Tower, where they experienced traditional Hawaiian food, music, and dance.
Monday’s itinerary focused on Hawaiian history and culture. The group visited the Nu’uanu Pali Lookout, the site of King Kamehameha’s final battle to unite the islands, before spending time at the Polynesian Cultural Center. These experiences gave students insight into the traditions and heritage of the islands.
Tuesday brought a mix of adventure and relaxation. Students hiked Diamond Head State Monument, taking in scenic views, before heading to Kaneohe Bay’s Secret Island to enjoy time by the water. The evening was left open for students to explore Waikiki and dine on their own.
The trip concluded on Wednesday with an early checkout and a circle island tour of O’ahu, including a final group lunch. Later that evening, students headed to the airport for their return flight to Los Angeles, bringing home lasting memories from a week filled with music, culture, and new experiences.
