The San Dimas High School Jazz band starts a new chapter for this school year.  With so many amazing and fun performances coming up, the hard work begins now!  Every morning, these jazzers come to school at 7:30 am ready to work and create music.  Once the bell rings, all are in their chairs with their music on their stands, tuning their instruments so the first note that comes out of their instruments is music to their ears.  From the first day of school, the musicians were handed music for their Christmas jazz concert.  It was a big deal, especially since this was the first-ever Jazz band concert for San Dimas.

San Dimas high school Jazz band has many performances throughout the year, but this concert brought a little more spice and excitement. For their Christmas Jazz concert they were side by side with the Blue Note Orchestra from Citrus college.  With tons of practice from the first day of school to the evening of December 4th,  each member of the jazz band has shown passion and created an amazing show for the audience.  One that will be talked about as days go on.

What made this performance truly special was not only the fun music and the amazing opportunity of playing on stage with a college band, but the fact that behind every note played there was heart.  Every moment shared with each jazz member, all the hard moments when the rhythms were rough, and all the fun moments where laughter filled the band room, all those moments combined helped shape each musician into a stronger player.  With all of the meaningful experiences, the performance turned out far more meaningful and enjoyable than expected.  The performance was one to remember and all members of the jazz band would agree.  To hear from one of the jazz trumpet players, Tyler Charpentier shared, “I’m loving jazz band, the people, music, and the culture in general really feels like a tight – knit family, especially within my section.  The vibes of the whole show really felt like everyone was excited to see what was happening next, especially switching songs with the Citrus band.”  From many members of the jazz band, standing on stage next to each other and with a higher level aside from them could have been seen as intimidating but the moment felt inspirational and gave so much motivation to perform the way each musician knew they could.

At the end of the night, all families left with a smile on their face.  The performance was more than just a regular Christmas concert.  Growth and pride filled up the BCA and the moment all together was one people would wish could last forever.  This concert was a reminder that when passion and dedication comes together, a powerful energy will arise to everyone around.

The San Dimas Jazz Christmas concert proved the greatness and power that the group could unleash to an audience.  But what was seen was only the beginning of those talented musicians.  Their music and capability will grow and continue to strengthen.  Every performance will be another reminder to the people watching that practice and teamwork could truly create something phenomenal.
